Bridal Shower Theme Ideas

Parties can be so much more fun and easier to plan with a theme. Here are some to choose from.

1. Around the Clock “Their love goes Around the clock!”

When preparing your invitations, assign each guest a time of day (in hour increments) with which her gift will correlate. For example, a 7:00 am gift could be a waffle iron and a 7:00 pm gift could be a romantic comedy DVD’s set (My Best Friends Wedding, Wedding Crashers, The Wedding Singer, The Wedding Planner, and/or The Wedding Date).

During the shower, have the bride open the gifts in order of hour. Tip: Keep a master list of which guest has what time. This way if they forget their assigned time of day you know what it is. Also, this makes the shower run smoother, when you call out the time of day you’ll know which guest to expect.

2. Pajama Party Shower

Perfect for close friends, this slumber party style shower includes pajamas, manicures, makeovers, and some good girl talk.

3. Recipe Shower

This potluck style shower is easy and makes a great gift for the bride. Have each guest bring her favorite dish for dinner. Make sure they put the recipe on a card and bring the ingredients as well. If you send out uniform recipe gards with the invitations, the recipes can be put into a booklet to give to the bride.

4. Room Shower

Have guests bring gifts that correlate with different room in the newlyweds home. For example, for the kitchen guests could bring a basket of canned foods or baking dishes. Each invitation should clearly identify that guests’s particular “room”. Variation: You can also center the entire shower around a specific room, such as the kitchen. You can also have your guest bring an additional kitchen tool to either decorate the top of their present or to add to the “Wishing Well”.

Tip: Keep a master list of which guest has what room. This way if they forget their assigned room, you know what it is. Also, this makes the shower run smoother, when you call out the room you’ll know which guest to expect.

5. Wishing Well Shower

Have each guest bring a small, handy item such as a can opener or pocket knife and place them in a bucket. These smaller items would be in addition to a more traditional gift. This will be the bride’s “wishing well”, and those useful tools will go far in the long run.

Variation: You can also have each guest attach a note card with advice to each tool and then read the cards aloud as an additional activity during the shower.

6. Words of Wisdom Shower

The bride-to-be needs a lot of advice, so ask each guest to write some words of wisdom before the shower. This way they’ll have time to really prepare and contemplate the advice they want to share. Combine the responses into a great scrapbook for the bride.
